Drinking water for aircraft at Macau Airport

CAM (Companhia do Aeroporto de Macau) engaged Voigtländer to secure the quality of the drinking and facilities water supplied to visiting aircraft at Macau, China. The disinfectant is produced on site and the whole system sits in a 20-foot container.

Water that reaches an aircraft tank

Disinfected water matters at an airport because the water supplied to aircraft tanks has to be safe, clean and free of harmful microorganisms. That protects the health of passengers and crew, meets regulatory standards, avoids operational problems and maintains passenger confidence.

CAM, the operator of Macau International Airport in China, engaged Voigtländer to secure the quality of the drinking and facilities water supplied to visiting aircraft.

A complete system in a 20-foot container

The Voigtländer generator produces the disinfectant, anolyte, on site. The water is treated before it is delivered to the aircraft, so nothing has to be stored or transported to the apron.

The comprehensive system is installed in a 20-foot container. That keeps the plant self-contained and makes the airport independent of deliveries of ready-made disinfectant.

How the concept works

From the mains to the aircraft

  1. 1

    Mains water

The airport supply is the starting point for drinking and facilities water.

  2. 2

    Generation on site

The Voigtländer generator produces anolyte from water, salt and electricity.

  3. 3

    Treatment before delivery

The water is treated before it goes to the aircraft.

  4. 4

    Aircraft supply

Visiting aircraft are supplied with treated drinking and facilities water.

  5. +

    In a container

The comprehensive system is installed in a 20-foot container.

What this project shows

What this reference shows and what not

Source: Voigtländer case study. All values relate to this site.

What this reference shows

  • That on-site generation can be used at an airport outside Europe, in a self-contained container system.
  • That the water is treated before it is delivered to the aircraft, rather than at the aircraft.

What it does not show

  • Measured values. The documentation for this site records the concept and the benefit, not a table of results.
  • A result for another airport. Fleet, water source, transfer points and operating procedure differ from site to site.
