Drinking water for aircraft at Saarbrücken Airport

Saarbrücken Airport uses the Voigtländer system to disinfect the water supplied to visiting aircraft. Anolyte from the generator is dosed into the mains water, and the documentation records about 10 m³ of drinking water a day.

Every flight departs with safe water

Effective water disinfection at airport level means every flight departs with safe water on board, which improves the overall safety and efficiency of air travel.

The team responsible for the airport water supply wanted a lasting solution to the water-quality issues rather than repeated case-by-case intervention.

Anolyte dosed into the mains water

The airport uses the Voigtländer system to reach a high standard of disinfection for the water supplied to visiting aircraft. This is done by adding anolyte, produced by the Voigtländer generator, to the mains water.

The scope is not only the water itself: the water delivery trucks and the equipment are covered too, so the whole supply chain to the aircraft is treated as one system.

How the concept works

From the mains to the aircraft

  1. 1

    Mains water

The airport mains supply is the starting point.

  2. 2

    Generation on site

    The Voigtländer generator produces anolyte.

  3. 3

    Dosing

Anolyte is dosed into the mains water.

  4. 4

    Aircraft supply

About 10 m³ of drinking water a day goes to visiting aircraft.

  5. +

    Trucks and equipment

Water delivery trucks and equipment meet the regulatory health and safety disinfection standards and are used as efficiently as possible.

What this project shows

What this reference shows and what not

Source: Voigtländer case study. All values relate to this site.

What this reference shows

  • That dosing into the mains can carry the treatment through to the aircraft at a smaller airport.
  • That the vehicles and the equipment belong in the scope, not only the water.

What it does not show

  • Measured values. The documentation for this site records the volume and the scope, not a table of results.
  • That 10 m³ a day applies elsewhere. That figure is the consumption of this airport.
